Apprenticeship Success at Mountway

Mountway Ltd, a leading specialist in the design, manufacture and provision of daily living aids, has recently had one of its employees complete a full Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship.

Matthew GoodfieldMatthew Goodfield from Blaenavon, South Wales recently completed a 4-year apprenticeship qualification in Mechanical Engineering at Mountway. While many employers offer apprenticeships in one area of Engineering, Mountway explores various aspects such as the use of different materials in addition to learning about design, testing and research and development, This was a key reason as to why Matt chose to undertake an apprenticeship at Mountway.

When asked what attracted Matt to an apprenticeship he commented, “I wanted to obtain skills and qualifications at the same time as gaining experience in the work place. I enjoy practical work and always found myself playing around in the garage at home and so wanted to expand further on the limited knowledge I already had.”

Matt now uses his newly gained skills in all areas of his role from making jigs to aid manufacture and taking on new projects, to assisting with various design work. On top of his general engineering tasks, Matt now has the added responsibility of testing all new and existing products to make sure they perform to the highest level. His ultimate ambition is to go on to study a HND and possibly progress to BEng (Honours) Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

“I think it is important that young people have both the work and practical experience as well as the academic certificates. You can learn so much more doing an apprenticeship!” stated Matt.

Mountway is offering one lucky winner the chance to win £1000* worth of independent living products this Christmas. To find out more and to enter, please visit http://www.mountway.com/christmas
